Summer Camp 2025 - Building Confidence & Connections
This week marked the beginning of Summer Camp 2025 at O’Connell’s, where we’re blending social, emotional, and physical wellbeing to create a positive, nurturing, and enjoyable experience for the boys. This year’s theme, "Building Confidence & Connections", reflects our ongoing commitment at OCS to support the boys in developing self-belief and meaningful relationships across all class groups. Every child is welcomed and embraced as part of the OCS spirit—where everyone belongs.
Our Rationale:
Our camp environment play a crucial role in promoting children’s physical wellbeing by providing opportunities for movement, exercise, and play. Through active participation in sports and games, children not only improve their physical health but also develop key social and emotional skills. Physical activities promote teamwork, cooperation, and peer interaction, offering natural spaces for children to build friendships, practice emotional regulation, and develop a sense of self-confidence.
One of the unique strengths of sports and physical play is their ability to transcend language barriers. Children with limited English proficiency can fully engage in camp games using the language they are most comfortable with—whether verbal, non-verbal, or body-based communication. This creates a welcoming environment where all children, regardless of linguistic background, feel included and capable. It fosters confidence and encourages organic language development in a non-formal, low-pressure setting.
Moreover, the camp setting acts as an extension of the school’s ethos, where belonging, inclusion, and positive relationships are central. By connecting with both peers and staff through shared activities, children build meaningful relationships that reinforce their emotional wellbeing and sense of community. This supportive network strengthens each child’s ability to navigate challenges, express themselves, and feel safe and valued—ultimately enhancing their overall development.
The boys have been shining this week, showing off their talents in rounders, soccer, board games, cooking, writing, and so much more. Take a look at some snapshots from the past few days!
A big thank you to Ms Healy, Ms Galbraith, Ms Geraghty, Mr Walsh, Mr Ó Fainín, Ms Bradley, Laura, and Ms Pierson for all their energy, enthusiasm, and hands-on involvement. If the last few days are anything to go by, we’re in for even more fun in the days ahead!!
